personChangpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, has resigned after pleading guilty to money laundering violations. Zhao is not allowed to take on a management position in the company for the next three years. Binance will pay $1.81 billion within 15 months, and a further $2.51 billion forfeiture.

It follows days of uncertainty after 747 of its 770 employees – some 97 per cent – threatened to quit unless Altman was reinstated. Altman said he has Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's support for returning to OpenAI.

Hamas
organizationHamas chief Ismail Haniyeh said the two sides are closing in on a truce. If agreed, the deal could free as many as 50 of 240 civilians held by Hamas. In exchange, Israel would pause its ground invasion for up to five days.
Binance
organizationChangpeng Zhao pleaded guilty to failing to maintain an effective anti-money laundering programme. He has also agreed to pay a $50m (£39.9m) fine and step down from Binance. Zhao becomes the second crypto entrepreneur to see his business career end in US courts this month following conviction of former FTX chief Sam Bankman-Fried.
X, formerly Twitter, filed a federal defamation suit on Monday in Texas. Media watchdog group published an article alleging the social network let top brands display ads near antisemitic and pro-Nazi posts. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said on Monday his office was opening an investigation into Media Matters.
Changpeng Zhao
personJustice Department said it was requiring Binance to pay $4.3bn (£3.4bn) in penalties and forfeitures. Binance’s chief executive officer Changpeng Zhao agreed to plead guilty to anti-money laundering charges and pay a $US50 million fine. Zhao named Richard Teng, a former CEO of Abu Dhabi Global Market, as Binance's new CEO.
